Minalan
Also known as: The Spellmonger; Count of the Magelaw
Appears in: #1.00 - Spellmonger #17.50 - The Golden Goblin
First appears in: #1.00 - Spellmonger
Summary
Master of both Tyndal and Rondal, the wizard around whom the whole series turns. The Golden Goblin opens with him paying the boys a Yule visit at Callierd to give them their mission - finding Lilastien - looking unusually tan for mid-Castali winter, with close-cropped hair and a tightly trimmed beard, an unfamiliar departure from his usual scruffy Yule self. He insists only Tyndal and Rondal can plausibly find her, even if she does not want to be found, and asks them not to mention Farise: as far as anyone is to know, the Spellmonger is utterly absorbed in the ruins at Falas and the secrets of the Ancients - a cover for his real project, which is to take Farise from Prince Tavard. He is Count of the Magelaw, Tyndal's liege, and the architect of the awkward alliance with King Ashakarl that lets the boys travel into the Goblin Kingdom in the first place.
